Good Samaritan killed by utility pole

CHEPSTWOW, ONTARIO - A Good Samaritan has died after being hit by a hydro pole at the scene of a car accident near Chepstow, north of Walkerton, Ontario.

Provincial police say the man stopped around 4:30 p.m. February 10 to check on a crash just west of Chepstow in Greenock Township.

A vehicle that had ended up in the ditch had caused hydro pole guide wires to fall across the road.

Police say a second vehicle drove over the downed wires – causing a hydro pole to break and hit the man.

The man, 31-year-old Derrick Walter of Walkerton, died of his injuries at the scene.

Police are making an appeal for witnesses to come forward with information.
