Toilets can generate power

UNITED KINGDOM - Toilets can generate electricity using a device developed by a De Montfort University student in the UK.

The HighDro Power harnesses the energy of wastewater as it falls through pipes, similar to the way a hydroelectric dam does.

If installed it's in a commercial building, the inventor estimates it could save $1,400 in electricity costs per year in a seven-story building. In a hotel, it might even let the owners sell electricity back to the grid.
