Negotiations with province to restart Bruce A Units 1 and 2 complete

TIVERTON, ON - Bruce Power confirmed that it has reached a tentative agreement with a provincial negotiator for the potential restart of Units 1 and 2 at the Bruce A generating station.

Details of the tentative agreement, which have been approved in principle by the boards of directors of the major partners of Bruce Power, are now being considered by the Ontario government.

The potential restart of Units 1 and 2 would return another 1,500 MW of emissions-free electricity to Ontario, which is enough power to meet the annual needs of approximately one million homes. It is also enough electricity to replace approximately 20 per cent of the province's current coal capacity, according to the Ontario Ministry of Energy.

Bruce Power began negotiating with David Santangeli of Energy Fundamentals Groups Inc. in September of 2004. Alongside those discussions, the company has also been reviewing the technical aspects of restarting the final two Bruce A units and negotiating contract terms with potential contractors.

"Completing our negotiations with David Santangeli is an important step in the overall approval process," said Duncan Hawthorne, Bruce Power's President and Chief Executive Officer. "We will continue to develop our contracting approach while we await the government's response to the tentative agreement."

Originally placed in service in 1977, Units 2 and 1 were laid up in 1995 and 1997 by the site's previous operators.
