Partnering for Renewable Energy Development Is at the Heart of the Seventh Forum on Hydropower
GATINEAU, QUEBEC - Hydropower producers, manufacturers and developers from across Canada will be meeting in Gatineau, Quebec to discuss issues and challenges for the development of renewable energy.
Organized by the Canadian Hydropower Association under the theme "Partnering for a renewable energy future," the Forum features presentations by John Murphy, Executive Vice President, Hydro, at Ontario Power Generation, who will speak about the utility's commitment to clean, renewable hydroelectric power, and the Honourable Gary Lunn, Canada's Minister of Natural Resources, who will speak at 3:30 p.m. on October 26.
Among other speakers:
- The Honourable Oscar Lathlin, Manitoba's Minister of Aboriginal and Northern Affairs, will discuss the effects of hydropower development on Aboriginal residents and ways of reducing impacts, referring to their successful agreement with Aboriginal communities.
- Christian Van Houtte, President of the Aluminum Association of Canada, will provide his industry's perspective on the role of hydropower in a renewable future for Canada.
- Daniel Richard, Director at Hydro-Quebec Distribution, will demonstrate the importance of wind energy in Quebec. He will also discuss how hydropower complements windpower, as well as the need to develop wind generation forecasts.
