LEDs are delightfully efficient
- Some consumers are starting to switch their regular household halogen or incandescent light bulbs to LED (light-emitting diode) technology. Up until now, LEDs have typically been used more in professional applications, but they are beginning to increase in popularity as a household lighting solution.
Homeowners can enjoy many benefits by using LEDs. The light bulbs are long-lasting and provide consistent, high-quality light output. Also, the bulbs use considerably less electricity than other types of bulbs so a home can be lit tastefully for a fraction of the cost.
"Consumers have told us that they've been disappointed with many LED bulbs to date, because of the poor quality," says Yong Cai, product manager for Philips Lighting Canada. It can be difficult to know how to choose the right replacement LED bulb. Right now, one very popular use is to replace a 35 watt halogen light bulb in a lamp or overhead pot light fixture with a 6 watt LED bulb, like the AmbientGU10 from Philips. Worker injured after GE turbine collapse
WASHINGTON - A GE turbine collapsed at a wind farm in north-east Brazil, injuring a worker and sparking a probe into the fifth such incident this year, the manufacturer confirmed.
One of the manufacturer’s GE 2.72-116 turbines collapsed at Omega Energia’s Delta VI project in Maranhão, which was commissioned in 2018.
Three GE employees were on site at the time of the collapse on Tuesday (3 September), the US manufacturer confirmed.
One worker was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment, GE added.
"We are working to determine the root cause of this incident and to provide proper support as needed," it said
