BEIJING -- - Russia and China will expand their cooperation in various aspects of the peaceful utilization of nuclear energy, including the construction of nuclear power plants, the president of Russia's nuclear society Valeriy Kryukov told ITAR- TASS recently. An appropriate agreement has been signed with China's nuclear society in Beijing.

Following the signing of the agreement ,a group of Russian nuclear experts left for Lianyungang, a large port in eastern China, where two power units of the Tianwan nuclear power plant are being built in cooperation with Russia. Russia plans to take part in a tender for the construction of another two nuclear reactors on this site. A uranium-enriching facility yielding 500 tonnes of nuclear fuel annually has already been built in China in cooperation with Russia. An experimental fast-neutron reactor whose units and fuel are imported from Russia is being built at present, general secretary of China's nuclear society told ITAR. Chinese experts are also showing considerable interest in Russian nuclear power plants for spacecraft.
