Constellation buys Maryland wind project
GARRETT COUNTY, MARYLAND - Constellation Energy said that it will buy and develop a $140 million wind project in Maryland from Clipper Windpower, one of several clean energy initiatives that Constellation is planning for the state.
The 70-megawatt Criterion wind project in Garrett County will generate enough electricity to power 23,000 households a year. Commercial operation at the plant is expected next fall.
The $140 million includes 28 of Clipper's 2.5 megawatt Liberty wind turbines and project costs.
The project has a 20-year agreement with Old Dominion Electric Cooperative to sell power and renewable energy credits produced by the wind facility.
Old Dominion is a not-for-profit power provider serving public electric cooperatives in Maryland, Delaware and Virginia.

TOKYO - Japan’s Hitachi Ltd said on Thursday it has decided to freeze a 3 trillion yen ($28 billion) British nuclear power project and will consequently book a write down of 300 billion yen.
The suspension comes as Hitachi’s Horizon Nuclear Power failed to find private investors for its plans to build a plant in Anglesey, Wales, which promised to provide about 6 percent of Britain’s electricity.
