4,000 lose electricity to high winds
AKRON, OHIO - High winds early March 9 knocked out electric power to about 4,000 customers in Summit, Portage and Medina counties.
Crews from Ohio Edison Co. had restored the power to about half of those customers by 9 a.m. the next day, said Ellen Raines, spokeswoman for Akron-based FirstEnergy Corp.
In the Canton area, between 1,300 and 1,500 customers were without power, said Shelly DiMattio, a spokeswoman for American Electric Power. The largest number of affected Stark County customers, about 1,000, were in the Fulton Road Northwest area.
AEP had power restored to all customers by 6 p.m., DiMattio said.
