New reactors would have 'no significant environmental effects'
OTTAWA, CANADA - As many as four new nuclear reactors on the Lake Huron shore would have "no significant environmental effects," the Bruce Power partnership said as it submitted two years worth of scientific and social analysis to the federal government.
The environmental impact statement is "another key step towards the potential construction of Bruce C," stated the partnership, which includes Cameco Corp., TransCanada Corp. and the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, along with the Power Workers' Union and the Society of Energy Professionals.
As currently envisaged, the development at the existing Bruce power site near Kincardine would provide 4,000 megawatts of electricity by about 2016 Bruce Power's findings are being submitted to a three-member review panel which will conduct its own analysis and public hearings, then make a recommendation to the federal cabinet.
