Electric vehicle charging stations open in Cambridge
Customers, visitors, employees and the general public can access the high-powered Level 2 charging stations from the west-end employee parking lot.
“We are excited to be working with our partners Plug ‘n Drive, the Region of Waterloo and Sustainable Waterloo Region to promote electric vehicles and infrastructure in Cambridge and North Dumfries,” said President and CEO Ian Miles. “Compared to gasoline, which is produced elsewhere, electricity is a low-cost fuel source that is produced and distributed in Ontario, by Ontarians. The adoption of electric vehicles will help our communities and the Province towards the goal of carbon reduction, and elimination of harmful emissions.”
CND is committed to being a leader by encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles, while at the same time ensuring that charging electric cars will not negatively impact the local electricity grid. Each charging station is connected to an advanced Smart Meter, so that the integration of the EV chargers and the CND Smart Metering System can be tested and monitored over time.
“It’s quite impressive to see a local utility company add to the growing number of public charging stations in the Waterloo Region and, in doing so, raise the bar on the technology available to EV drivers with the high-powered electric charging units,” said David Roewade, Sustainability Planner at the Region of Waterloo.
Cambridge and North Dumfries Hydro Inc., a local distribution company, delivers electricity to 52,500 customers in the City of Cambridge and the Township of North Dumfries in Ontario.
