Russia Ready to Cooperate on Building Finnish Loviisa Nuclear Plant

Russia's state nuclear energy agency, Rosatom, provides the nuclear fuel for the first and the second power units of the Loviisa plant in southern Finland .

Finland and Russia already work together on projects in the nuclear sector, such as the construction of the Hanhikivi 1 plant in Finland . Finnish nuclear company Fennovoima Ltd and Rusatom Overseas, a subsidiary of Rosatom, signed a contract in 2013 to construct the nuclear power plant in northern Finland.

The facility will include a Russian-designed 1,200-megawatt pressurized water reactor.

According to the project time line, Hanhikivi 1 will begin producing electricity in 2024.
