Russia's state nuclear energy agency, Rosatom, provides the nuclear fuel for the first and the second power units of the Loviisa plant in southern Finland .

Finland and Russia already work together on projects in the nuclear sector, such as the construction of the Hanhikivi 1 plant in Finland . Finnish nuclear company Fennovoima Ltd and Rusatom Overseas, a subsidiary of Rosatom, signed a contract in 2013 to construct the nuclear power plant in northern Finland.

The facility will include a Russian-designed 1,200-megawatt pressurized water reactor.

According to the project time line, Hanhikivi 1 will begin producing electricity in 2024.
