Four nuclear projects slated for central China
HENAN, CHINA - Central China's Henan province is planning to build four nuclear power projects, including the proposed Nanyang Nuclear Power Station, which is listed in the national plan, said Zhang Dawei, the vice governor of Henan, after a meeting of the 11th Standing Committee of Henan regarding enhanced investment for key capital construction projects, which was held on November 23.
According to a document disclosed at the meeting, the government of Henan province implemented 315 key projects in two batches this year, with a total investment of $136 billion. So far, all the projects are progressing smoothly. It's expected that the total annual investment for the key projects in Henan will be more than $22.5 billion this year.
At the end of October, the total investment reached $18.85 billion, accounting for 83.6 of the annual target. Among the 86 projects planned to begin this year, 64 had kicked off among the 60 projects scheduled to finish this year, 23 had been completed. The annual investment objectives set for coal mines, grids, social businesses, utilities and power source industries had been reached and the annual investment targets set for water resources, highways and industrial projects were more than 85 completed.
In 2010, the construction of the energy base in Henan was progressing. So far, the Nanyang Nuclear Station has been listed in national planning, and the project company has been established. The project proposal of Xinyang Nuclear Power Project has been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission for approval. Additionally, the pre-stage preparations for nuclear power projects proposed in Luoyang and Pingdingshan have been launched.
As the first nuclear power project proposed in Henan, the Nanyang Nuclear Station, jointly invested by China National Nuclear Corporation and the government of Henan, is scheduled to begin construction at its main works in 2012.
For 2010, a total of 3,500 megawatts MW in new power source projects have received approval in Henan, 3,800 MW of which have been begun construction. It's expected that the total capacity of new power source projects in Henan will surpass 4,000 MW, and about 5,000 MW of power source projects will be commissioned this year.
