A reactor affected by a blaze last November at the Dungeness B nuclear power plant at Romney Marsh, Kent, in southeastern England, is operational again.

EDF Energy has confirmed that the reactor is now up and running after three months of downtime. The other reactor at the plant has been out of action since last July because of planned maintenance works.

In a statement to local news, Dungeness B Station Director Graham Finn said: "Staff have worked around the clock to bring the power station back online as soon as safely possible and have been supported by teams from our engineering division, other sites and contract partners. This has been a remarkable effort from nuclear professionals across our business."

In November, 10 fire-fighting crews attended a blaze that broke out in the boiler annex. All 57 staff were evacuated after the alarm was sounded.

When operational, the 1,090-megawatt (MW) Dungeness B plant is capable of generating enough electricity to power 1.5 million homes.

However, the second reactor at Dungeness is expected to remain offline until June this year for the extended maintenance works.
