Conference on Farm Stray Voltage

TORONTO, ONTARIO - The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) will be holding a Stakeholder Consultation Conference on Farm Stray Voltage on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.

The event will take place from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel close to the Toronto International Airport at 655 Dixon Road, Toronto, Ontario.

The purpose of the Stakeholder Consultation Conference is to provide interested parties with information regarding OEB's Farm Stray Voltage Consultation, which was initiated in August and included a series of farmer consultation meetings held across the province between late October and early November.

The Stakeholder Consultation Conference agenda will include presentations by consultants hired by the OEB to look into specific aspects of the farm stray voltage issue, a summary of the views and concerns expressed by farmers throughout the consultation, and an overview of next steps in the consultation process.

Those planning to attend should contact the Ontario Energy Board to that effect by Friday, November 30, 2007 by sending an email to Doreen Robinson at fsvconsultation@oeb.gov.on.ca, or by calling the Board's Consumer Relations Centre at 1-877-632-2727 (toll free) or 416-314-2455.

Power grab: 5 arrested after Hydro-Québec busts electricity theft ring

MONTREAL - Five people have been arrested in connection with an electricity theft ring alleged to have operated for five years.

The thefts were allegedly committed by the owners of rental properties who used stolen personal information to create accounts with Hydro-Québec.

The utility alleges that between 2014 and 2019, Mario Brousseau, Simon Brousseau-Ouellette and their accomplices defrauded Hydro-Québec of up to $300,000 worth of electricity. It was impossible for Hydro-Québec’s customer service section to detect the fraud because the information on the accounts, while stolen, was also genuine.

The suspects are expected to face 25 counts of fraud, conspiracy and identity theft.
