CL&P transmission upgrade completed in Stamford
The approximate 1.5 mile project route threads through downtown, and important commuter rail and highway corridors connecting two existing substations in the Glenbrook and South End neighborhoods. This active area presented unique construction challenges that were met by the project team with several creative solutions that included:
- Tunneling under the Metro-North Railroad right of way to avoid impacts to commuters
- Routing around the Stamford Urban Transitway, the cityÂ’s roadway improvement project between East Main and Atlantic streets
- Customizing street work hours to minimize impacts to residential and business neighbors
“The Stamford Reliability Cable Project continues CL&P’s strong track record of making targeted investments to improve our system,” said Dwayne Basler, Vice President of Transmission Projects, Engineering & Maintenance for Northeast Utilities, parent company of CL&P. “These investments ensure reliable, cost-effective energy for our customers and support the continued economic growth in southwest Connecticut.”
The Stamford Reliability Cable Project is part of a series of upgrades to CL&PÂ’s electric system in the Stamford and surrounding area. Together these projects will improve reliability of service and meet the growing customer demand for power.

NEI Chief Nuclear Officer Doug True said: “A modernised regulatory framework is a key enabler of next-generation nuclear technologies that can help us meet our energy needs while protecting the climate.…
