GSE Systems, Inc. announced multiple awards during the current quarter totaling over $5 million of new work in its nuclear and non nuclear simulation business sectors.

Among the awards are contracts to implement the companyÂ’s state of the art RELAP5-HD nuclear thermo-hydraulic code for a power plant in Switzerland, and provide significant upgrades to GSEÂ’s existing nuclear plant simulators in Mexico and Germany.

GSEÂ’s customers continue to make investments in their existing simulators. Some are taking advantage of GSEÂ’s new high fidelity simulation technology which provides an even more realistic, high definition representation of their plants. Others continue to modernize and improve the performance of the actual plant and therefore must update the simulator to maintain effective training.

In the non-nuclear sectors, the company was awarded a contract to build a high fidelity simulator for a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) facility in Maryland and to provide new models for an existing refinery simulator in Norway.

The company was also awarded a contract to build a simulator for an American Electric Power SWEPCO coal fired power plant which is currently under construction in southwest Arkansas. The simulator will be used not only to train the new site operations team, but as a tool to further verify the control system implementation and operating procedures prior to plant start up. This project represents the fifteenth simulator project that GSE has provided for AEPÂ’s conventional and nuclear power plants.

John V. Moran, GSE’s Chief Executive Officer said, “Our relationship with AEP is very valuable to the company. The sheer number of projects speaks to the effectiveness of simulation for both design validation and training. Our JADE real time power plant simulation software is presently being used on the development of simulators for five new power plants in the United States representing over 5,000 megawatts of electricity.”

“I am also pleased that the nuclear market continues to see the value of our RELAP5-HD solution. This latest award makes eight active projects with several more in the pipeline.”
