U.S. UTILITIES TO ASK FOR NEW SITE LOCATION APPROVALS
Ottawa, ON. -- -
Ottawa, ON. -- One or more of five U.S. utilities will announce applications for site location approval for new nuclear power plants before the end of April. Joe Colvin, President of the Nuclear Energy Institute in Washington, said all but one of the proposed locations would be at existing nuclear plant sites, while one would be a greenfield site.
Mr. Colvin said the utilities involved in applying for new nuclear sites included Constellation Energy, Dominion Resources, Entergy, Exelon and Southern. The applications would be made to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Once approved, the applicants would return to the NRC at a later date to request approval for a construction and operating licence for a pre-approved nuclear power plant design.

“We’ll reduce air pollution by shifting to clean B.C. energy,” say the CleanBC ads, which feature scenic photos of hydro reservoirs. “CleanBC: Our Nature. Our Power. Our Future.”
