Wisconsin Public Service Joins State Utilities in Seeking Transmission Cost Recovery As A Separate Issue
- GREEN BAY, Wis., -- Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, a subsidiary of WPS Resources Corporation (NYSE: WPS), has joined other state investor-owned utilities as they seek to recover costs resulting from the changes to the state's electric transmission system. These changes were encouraged by 1999 legislation in an effort to improve the reliability of the electric system in Wisconsin. Previously, Public Service had included these costs, about $20 million, in an electric and natural gas rate case filing with the PSCW which was announced in April.
So that the transmission cost issues, which affect the four investor-owned utilities in eastern Wisconsin, would not have to be presented individually before the Commission in four separate cases, the companies agreed to a joint filing.
"Our customers will only be affected once by the decision," said Bill Bourbonnais, WPS Manager - Rates & Economic Evaluation. "If the transmission cost recovery is approved, the costs will either be included in the rates approved by the PSCW in the Company's 2002 rate case or as a separate surcharge, but not both."
