British Energy eyes more Canada investments
- LONDON - Nuclear power group British Energy Plc, which reported narrower first half losses helped by a first contribution from its Canada business, said on Wednesday it was considering further investments in the country.
"We are looking at a number of possible business investments, largely in Canada, which would be complementary to Bruce," Executive Chairman Robin Jeffrey told reporters in a conference call.
The company's 80 percent interest in Bruce Power in Canada contributed 40 million pounds ($58.3 million) of profit in the first half, which helped to reduce group losses to 17 million from 56 million in the same period of last year.

SYDNEY - The United Nation’s climate body, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, on Monday said radical emissions reduction across the world’s economies, including a phase-out of coal by 2050, was required to avoid the most devastating climate change impacts.

“If we were to take coal out of the system the lights would go out on the east coast of Australia overnight. It provides more than 60 per cent of our power," he said.
