What is an Arc Flash Video?

An arc flash video is a powerful training and awareness tool that shows the dangers of electrical explosions caused by incident energy faults.

✅ Demonstrates real-world arc flash incidents for visual impact

✅ Reinforces safety training and PPE requirements

✅ Used in electrical safety courses and NFPA 70E compliance

This video shows what electrical workers face firsthand and the explosive nature of an electrical explosion. Our library has many examples of AF incidents, flame-retardant garment testing procedures, general electrical safety videos, and more. Learn how to properly use arc flash PPE clothing to meet NFPA 70E and CSA Z462 safety requirements.

It is an educational tool designed to raise awareness about the dangers of electrical explosions and promote electrical safety. Electrical explosions are a serious hazard that can occur when electrical current jumps from one conductor to another, creating an intense burst of heat and light that can cause serious injury or death.

To prevent accidents, it is important for workers to receive proper safety training that includes information about how to identify potential AF and shock hazards, how to use appropriate protective gear, and how to respond in the event of an emergency. Expand your understanding of blast risks by reading our section on electrical arc blast explosion and AF vs blast distinctions.

One effective way to deliver this information is through the use of safety videos. Safety videos can provide workers with visual examples of electrical explosions, demonstrating the importance of adhering to proper safety protocols and highlighting the potential consequences of disregarding them.

In addition to providing essential safety information, these videos can also help to promote a culture of safety within an organization. By prioritizing safety training, employers can help create a workplace where workers feel valued and protected, and where everyone understands their role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. For detailed procedures, refer to our Arc Flash Boundary Chart to understand safe working distances and flash protection zones.

Overall, it can be a powerful tool for promoting electrical safety and preventing workplace accidents. By using this tool to educate and empower workers, employers can help to ensure that their organizations are safe and productive places to work.

Producing a video of an actual AF incident is challenging because it is a rare occurrence; however, there are a few closed-circuit incidents available for viewing in our collection.

We have compiled the best examples that are both instructive and informative. These videos aim to raise awareness of the significant dangers posed by electrical explosions, as well as the resulting injuries they cause.

Be warned: some viewers may find these videos disturbing.

Video #2

This shows an arc flash explosion that allegedly happened in a plant in Colombia, South America, in 2007.

In the video, a maintenance electrician was racking in a circuit breaker when an AF explosion took place right in front of him.

It’s not difficult to imagine from this graphic video the extent of the damage it can cause to a worker. It is not known the extent of this worker’s injuries or if it was an AF fatality.

Another video we would like you to view might possibly be the second-most widely viewed video online. This video shows three electrical workers at the open door of an exterior electrical substation when an AF occurs. All three workers received burns, one of whom was seriously injured.
