Enmax Energy Chosen As Exclusive Electricity Supplier to Westerner Park

RED DEER, AB - -- ENMAX Corporation and Westerner Park today announced that ENMAX Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of ENMAX, will provide electricity to the Red Deer park under an exclusive five-year contract, effective July 1, 2001.

"It's tremendous to be a part of Westerner Park," said Sean Durfy, ENMAX Energy vice-president and chief operating officer. "We're going to work hard to ensure Westerner is delighted with its energy retailer choice and we look forward to expanding our current operations in the Red Deer area."

Financial terms of the five-year electricity contract are confidential.

The deal also includes sponsorship at numerous agricultural events, signage throughout the park and the naming of the ENMAX Centrium, home of the Red Deer Rebels, with which ENMAX Energy has an established partnership. The ENMAX Community Relations team will attend community events at Westerner and be on hand to provide customers with reliable, timely information on industry issues such as energy conservation and deregulation.

"We chose ENMAX because, in addition to their solid energy services offer, there was an opportunity to become true partners and develop outstanding community programs," said John Harms, Westerner Park General Manager. "We have been working closely with ENMAX for the past several months to develop a great partnership that will be beneficial to both parties as well as the Central Alberta community."

At present, Westerner Park uses about 3.65 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. Developed in 1982, Westerner Park is Central Alberta's largest trade show, agriculture, sports, entertainment and convention facility. A not-for-profit organization supported by more than 500 volunteers, Westerner Park generates over $70 million annually in economic activity, hosting over one thousand events and one million visitors each year.

ENMAX Energy, the unregulated, retail arm of the ENMAX organization, has signed electricity contracts with new commercial customers across the province since electricity deregulation got fully under way on January 1, 2001, increasing total energy sales by more than 25 per cent so far this year, compared to 2000 sales levels.
