Japan closes Hamaoka nuclear plant
JAPAN - Chubu Electric agreed to close its Hamaoka nuclear plant until it can be better protected against massive tsunamis like the one that battered Tokyo Electric Power's Fukushima plants, triggering a nuclear crisis.
Chubu shut its plant in response to a request by PM Naoto Kan, who cited the region's high quake risk.
Hamaoka delivers power to central Japan, where many factories are based.
