Gillette upgrades its electrical system

Gillette is beginning a two-year project to improve the city's electrical system.

Several upgrades and additions to Gillette's power system will be completed this year. The electric utility is increasing its utility capacity by about 60 percent, or 40 megawatts.

City officials say the $3.6-million project started recently with the addition of some new power poles, power lines and a new electrical substation.

Officials say that the increasing demand for power in Gillette means the city will need several more substations and transmission lines.
