UWIG Recognition for Hydro-Québec Teams underscores renewable energy research, advancing wind power integration and hydroelectricity via utility-grade simulation tools that optimize output and grid stability, supported by IREQ and UWIG's utility wind technology forum.

What This Means

A UWIG recognition for three Hydro-Québec research teams advancing renewables, wind integration, and grid simulation.

  • Three Hydro-Québec teams recognized by UWIG
  • Focus on wind power integration and grid stability
  • Utility-grade simulation tools to optimize output
  • Research led by IREQ, Hydro-Québec's institute
  • UWIG: international forum for utility wind tech

Three Hydro-Québec research teams will receive an Annual Achievement Award from the Utility Wind Integration Group UWIG, honouring their significant contribution to the development of tools for the simulation, dynamic modeling and analysis of power systems with a large share of wind power.

This recognition by UWIG is remarkable and unusual because it honours three teams of researchers from the same company — a rare occurrence among technology awards worldwide.

"This well-deserved honour is a tribute to the innovative talent of our research teams and the expertise that Hydro-QuE9bec devotes to renewables energies, particularly hydroelectricity and wind power. The relevance and timeliness of their research will allow the company to benefit from unique, highly effective simulation tools that will help to optimize wind power output, including a universal wind turbine concept, and integrate many projects into Hydro-QuE9bec's extensive power grid using relay technology across the network," said Denis Faubert, General Manager of IREQ, Hydro-QuE9bec's research institute.

Established in 1989, the Utility Wind Integration Group UWIG provides a forum for the critical analysis of wind technology for utility applications and serves as a source of credible information on the status of wind technology and its deployment. Based in the United States, UWIG has over 150 members from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia working to meet evolving grid standards worldwide.
