IEEE approves arc flash hazard calculation amendment

The IEEE has approved work to begin on an amendment to its guide for performing arc flash hazard calculations.

IEEE P1584b, "IEEE Guide for Performing Arc Flash Hazard Calculations - Amendment," will help enable more accurate arc-flash calculations by incorporating the extensive experience gained by the members of the Arc Flash Hazard Calculations Working Group.

It will also clarify wording and make the previous standard easier to follow.

IEEE has also begun work to revise the standard IEEE P1566, "Standard for Performance of Adjustable Speed AC Drives Rated 375 kW and Larger."

The update will reflect recent industry developments and incorporate user feedback.
