National Grid supports Waxman-Markey discussion draft
“Tackling climate change through a coordinated energy policy is absolutely vital, and the time to act is now. The Waxman-Markey announcement… is a positive and welcome step forward to meeting that challenge.
“We must create jobs and reduce our emissions through plugging in more renewable energy, building smarter networks and increasing our energy efficiency programs. Fighting recession and the effects of climate change can easily work hand-in-hand. The country needs investment now and this will drive the right form of investment for the low-carbon economy of the future.
“National Grid is a long time leader in energy efficiency programs. We have committed to emission reduction targets of 45 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050. However, we now need a clear framework in order for the entire country to achieve real carbon reductions.
“We look forward to fully participating as soon as possible on the next steps, to help customers and businesses across the country, and ensure a coordinated energy and climate change policy becomes reality.”
