Utilities are making progress restoring power to tens of thousands of people left in the dark after a spring storm.

Westar Energy says only about 2,700 of its customers remained without power as of 7:45 p.m. March 30.

The adjutant general's office says the outages are scattered across 15 counties with Butler, Cowley and Greenwood counties most affected. Westar said about 200 distribution poles and 140 transmissions poles were destroyed.

Kansas Electric Cooperatives Inc. told state officials its members planned to complete power-restoration efforts that night. On March 29, the statewide association reported outages involving 1,000 meters, which can serve multiple homes and businesses.

The adjutant general's office also said it had received three new reports in Reno County of buildings collapsing under the weight of snow.
