Turbine pole kills small child
BELGRAVE, ONTARIO - A three-year old boy was killed in a tragic accident near Belgrave when the pole of a small wind turbine fell on him.
Huron OPP said Logan Hallahan died at Wingham hospital before he could be transported to the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario in London, Ont.
The boy had been playing with a group of children near a 34-metre residential wind turbine structure that was under repair.
The nine-metre generator pole was anchored temporarily to a cement pad by a strap.
The children were playing on the pole, causing the strap to loosen and the turbine to lift the pole off the ground.
The young boy was sitting on the generator pole closest to the turbine. Police said he slid down the pole and landed on it. A second pole fell on top of him, pinning him.
Several parents ran and stopped the generator pole from lifting and pulled the boy out.
He was taken to Wingham hospital immediately but died two hours after he was pinned.
Provincial police are still investigating.

Advisers come and advisers go, of course, but it turns out there was an impetus for Mintz’s departure. The Ecofiscal Commission in its latest report, dropped just before Canada Day, seemingly shifted from its position that carbon prices were so excellent at mimicking market forces…
