Pakistan has high wind potential

PAKISTAN - Wind power in Pakistan has the potential to generate 31,500 megawatts, according to the director of energy management for Pakistan Electric Power Co.

Tahir Bashir Cheema pointed to coastal areas, like Balochistan, Sindh and the Pothohar region, as the most viable places to build wind turbines, Asia Pulse Data Source reports.

The Pakistani government has already set a goal of generating 5,000 megawatts of wind power by 2019 and created an Alternative Energy Fund to help develop renewable-energy technology.

The government funding can also be used to finance approved renewable projects that will add more capacity to the renewable grid.
