New Democrat Brian Mason says a survey done by Manitoba Hydro shows the northern Alberta city of Grande Prairie -- a region rich with oil and gas -- has the highest energy cost out of the 17 communities it measured across the country.
The survey measured the cost of 750-kilowatts of power.
In Grande Prairie, it would cost about one-hundred and 10 dollars.
Mason says Edmonton, Calgary, Charlottetown, PEI and Englehart, Ontario are also paying top dollar for electricity.
He says he'd like to see the Alberta government admit that deregulation of the electricity industry is driving up prices.
Mason says they want price protection for consumers.
