Ontario Power Generation's (OPG) Darlington Nuclear Unit 2 has returned to service following a spring maintenance outage. Prior to this planned outage, Unit 2 had operated for 402 consecutive days.

The outage included work on both the reactor systems and on the turbine generator. The Unit is currently operating at 100 per cent power; ready to supply the growing electricity demands of the coming summer.

Along with the reactor inspections and maintenance, blades on the low pressure turbines were inspected and repaired, electrical work was completed and boiler tubes were modified.

To the end of April, the Darlington station had produced 8.68 TWh of electricity this year, equal to about 16.5 per cent of all the electricity used in the province. Today, Darlington Unit 1, 3 and 4 are also operating at 100 per cent power.
