Gary Bloom eMeter CEO appointment highlights Smart Grid innovation, enterprise software leadership, and utility transformation, leveraging partnerships with Siemens and IBM, plus experience from VERITAS, Symantec, and Oracle to scale global energy infrastructure modernization.

Key Information

It marks Gary Bloom assuming eMeter's top role to drive Smart Grid software growth for utilities worldwide.

  • Former VERITAS CEO; doubled revenue to $2B by 2004.
  • Ex-Symantec Vice Chairman and President.
  • Led Oracle databases, marketing, support, and M&A.
  • Replaces Cree Edwards; Edwards remains Chairman.

eMeter, the global leader in Smart Grid Management software, announced that former VERITAS CEO and Symantec President, Gary Bloom, will be joining as the company’s new chief executive officer.

Bloom brings more than two decades of senior executive experience in enterprise software to eMeter. This newest addition to the eMeter executive team not only reinforces the strong momentum of the company, but also demonstrates the undeniable potential for taking the Smart Grid mainstream today, with smart grid software glue enabling emerging solutions.

“The utility industry is in the midst of a major technology transformation as they upgrade to the Smart Grid and eMeter is delivering best-in-class Smart Grid software solutions. I am excited to combine my enterprise software experience with eMeter’s market-leading product set, world-class partners like Siemens and IBM, and an impressive roster of customers across the world,” said Bloom.

Bloom will be replacing Cree Edwards who will continue on as eMeter Chairman of the Board. “Adding Gary’s expertise in building high-growth global software companies, and insights from DOE Smart Grid advisors across the sector, will give eMeter a distinct advantage as we position ourselves for the future,” said Cree Edwards, eMeter Chairman. “We are confident he’ll not only advance eMeter, but Gary will further establish what the Smart Grid industry has long been discussing – that Smart Grids are the future of the electric, gas, and water infrastructure worldwide.”

Most recently, Bloom was Vice Chairman and President of Symantec where he led the company’s line of business and corporate development organizations. Bloom joined Symantec through the company’s merger with VERITAS Software, where he was Chairman, President and CEO. Prior to VERITAS, Mr. Bloom was executive vice president at Oracle Corporation. During his 14-year career at Oracle, Bloom led Oracle’s database business, worldwide marketing, support, education, and alliance organizations, including partnerships such as Verizon smart grid collaboration that advanced utility connectivity, and was responsible for mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Bloom holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from California Polytechnic State University where he currently serves on the President’s Cabinet and is the Chairman of the Board of the Cal Poly Foundation. Mr. Bloom also serves on the Board of Directors of BMC Software and Taleo Corporation.

Across the industry, Trilliant's smart network underscores ongoing municipal upgrades.
