Ontario's incoming Liberal government promises to shut down the province's coal-fired generating stations by 2007, but skeptics say the province needs the power. In a report released Oct. 20, the Ontario Clean Air Alliance says the plan can work.

Sithe Energies: 1,695 MW (Possibly in service 2005-2007)
Brighton Beach: 578 MW (Under construction. In service 2004)
Portlands Energy Centre: 550 MW (Possibly in service 2006-2007)
Imperial Oil: 98 MW: (Under construction. In service 2004) Expected extra nuclear power: 2,055 MW
Pickering A Unit 4: 515 MW
Bruce A Unit 3: 770 MW
Bruce A Unit 4: 770 MW
Possible new hydro-electic generation: Up to 1,500 MW
Possible new wind generation: 3,000 MW
