BC Hydro has deferred its application to the utilities commission for the proposed Vancouver Island Generation Project.

The province demanded a CPCN certificate but BC Hydro now wants to assess new opportunities for customer generation.

VIGP includes 10 to 40 MW of wind and 4 MW of wave energy.

There are no plans to debate the cost benefits of green energy because renewables cannot provide firm capacity, the utility says. "If it is determined that green energy can be developed in a viable manner, then it may mean that a gas plant can be deferred into the future."
