Jeffrey Lyash will take over for the state's second largest utility company June first. He replaces H. William Habermeyer Junior who will retire at the end of May.
Lyash is currently the company's senior vice president. He started with Progress Energy in 1993 when the Raleigh, North Carolina-based company was known as Carolina Power And Light.
Lyash's replacement hasn't been named.
