Tauron launched a tender for its wind farm in northern Poland as part of a plan to generate 440 MW of wind energy by 2020, Poland's second largest utility said.

The tender is for the supply, installation and servicing of 20 turbines with a capacity of 2 MW each at its Wicko wind farm as well as a 110 kV substation. The total cost was estimated at 200 million zloty US $62.54 million.

"Tauron is starting to develop wind energy power," it said in a statement. "The group plans to start wind farms totaling 440 MW until 2020."

The company has 131 MW of installed renewable capacity from 35 hydro plants that produced 0.9 TWh of power in 2009. Tauron said the company plans to triple the amount of energy it generates through renewable sources by 2020.

Tauron, which operates in the heavily industrialized region of Silesia, is Poland's top power distributor and generates about 13 percent of its production.
