Veridian and its employees have delivered a huge helping hand to the 2007 United Way campaigns in the communities that the company operates in. The utility's 160 staff members raised a record-breaking $42,724.41, almost 30% more than the total raised during last year's fundraising drive.

Veridian employees gathered in Ajax to present a cheque to local United Way Co-Chair Jim Witty. Witty congratulated all Veridian employees on their generosity and thanked them for their donations. "I'm so pleased to see that Veridian and its employees continue their tradition of leadership in supporting our communities," he said. "Be assured that your efforts will positively affect the lives of many local residents."

Diana Hills-Milligan, Veridian's employee campaign Chair, points out that the fundraising drive was strongly supported by Veridian employees throughout the Region of Durham, the City of Belleville, and the Towns of Port Hope and Gravenhurst. "Our employee fundraising committee members were extremely dedicated and very enthusiastic," she said. "Their enthusiasm was contagious and helped propel the success of numerous employee fundraising events."

Veridian President and CEO Michael Angemeer also expressed his appreciation for the efforts of his staff. "You've managed to exceed an aggressive $35,000 campaign target by an astounding $7,200," he said. "That sets yet another Veridian record and shows the power of teamwork and your commitment to our communities."

Since the company's inception in 1999, Veridian and its employees have raised almost $250,000 for local United Way agencies.
