Vestas has secured a service-contract extension for seven years from Enbridge for the 190-MW Enbridge Ontario Wind farm near Kincardine, Ontario.
Installed in September 2006 and CanadaÂ’s second largest wind power plant, the site includes 115 V82-1.65-MW wind turbines, which generate enough electricity to power about 57,000 homes in Ontario.
“We are excited to continue our partnership with Enbridge, one of Canada’s leading energy-delivery companies,” said Martha Wyrsch, President of Vestas-Canadian Wind Technology, Inc. “This service contract also ensures long-term job stability for 14 Ontarians who provide maintenance for these turbines.”
Under the agreements, Vestas will provide a full range of services to maximize the turbines’ energy production. The services consist of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, replacement of major components and spare parts, and a surveillance system called VestasOnline®, which allows Vestas to monitor and remotely control the turbines.
Vestas has supplied 1,021 wind turbines to Canada totaling 1,683 MW of installed wind power capacity as of Dec. 31, 2010.
