American Electric Power (AEP) is restarting its Oklaunion coal-fired power plant in Texas, Reuters has reported, citing a report of the company.

As reported, the company shut the unit at the end of October for boiler inspection and repairs. The plant has a power generation capacity of 690MW.

The Oklaunion power station is located in Oklaunion in Wilbarger County, about 190 miles northwest of Dallas. The plant commenced its operations in 1986.

The owners of the power station include Brownsville Public Utilities Board with 18%, Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority with 11.7%, AEP Public Service Co of Oklahoma with 15.6%, and AEP Texas North Co with 54.7% ownership interest. AEP Public Service Co of Oklahoma, AEP's regulated subsidiary, operates the power station on behalf of its owners. AEP's regulated subsidiary, AEP Public Service of Oklahoma, operates the station for its owners.

AEP owns and operates approximately 38,000MW of generating capacity, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes electricity to around five million customers in 11 states.
