The Canadian Electricity Association CEA applauds the Government’s intention to enhance funding and introduce legislation to heighten the protection of vital cyber systems, as announced recently in the federal budget.

 

“Today’s announcement of new measures to protect vital cyber systems, such as regulatory reform initiatives, is encouraging,” said the Hon. Sergio Marchi, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Electricity Association. “As one of Canada’s ten Critical Infrastructure sectors, CEA members are operators of vital cyber systems and work closely with the Government of Canada to protect physical and cyber assets essential to Canada’s security. We look forward to contributing to the development of any new legislation and to learning more about the details of these proposals, building on energy efficiency measures already welcomed.”

CEA's Pre-Budget 2015 Submission to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance called for enhanced protection of electricity Critical Infrastructure through increased funding for Public Safety Canada’s Canadian Cyber Incident Response Centre, alongside greater electricity investments to support grid resilience.
