Masdar 24/7 Clean Energy Project secures $5.1bn financing to deliver round-the-clock power in Abu Dhabi, pairing 5.2 GW solar with 19 GWh battery storage under a 13-bank package within a $6.1bn investment plan.

A landmark financing has closed for a world-first, gigascale Round-the-Clock renewable energy platform in Abu Dhabi, advancing a total investment of $6.1 billion and securing a $5.1 billion financing package to bring the project to execution.

The 24/7 configuration will combine a 5.2 GW solar photovoltaic plant with a 19 GWh battery energy storage system to deliver 1 GW of continuous clean power. By pairing large-scale PV with long-duration storage, the project is designed to provide baseload-style renewable supply and directly address the intermittency challenge that has historically limited variable resources.

The financing is backed by a consortium of 13 international and local banks, signaling strong confidence in the project's commercial fundamentals and in the sponsor's execution capabilities. The close demonstrates that round-the-clock utility-scale renewable power can be underwritten by mainstream lenders when technical integration and offtake structures are robust.

Technology integration is central to the platform's value proposition. The role of storage in firming solar output continues to expand, with the sector increasingly focused on solar batteries that can shift energy delivery to align with system needs and demand peaks, enhancing grid reliability.

The project is being developed in partnership with Emirates Water and Electricity Company, with site works initiated in October 2025 and commercial operations targeted for 2027. Within the UAE, wider renewable additions, including initiatives captured under dewa renewables, are broadening the resource base that complements new storage-backed clean power portfolios.

Across the region, utility-scale programs continue to accelerate, and commitments to saudi clean energy underscore strong investor appetite for bankable projects and long-term decarbonization frameworks, helping to deepen liquidity for large renewable transactions.

On the demand side, rapid growth from data centers, AI workloads, and advanced manufacturing is heightening the need for dependable clean electricity. Enterprises are pairing procurement of time-matched renewable supply with efficiency and flexibility solutions, a trend reflected in offerings such as centrica business solutions, which align on-site systems and analytics with wider sustainability goals.

Regional institutions and initiatives, including adfd arena, also contribute to the broader ecosystem that supports renewable deployment and finance across emerging markets, reinforcing pathways for replicating storage-integrated clean power models.

With a diversified portfolio exceeding 65 GW and a stated pathway to 100 GW by 2030, the sponsor is positioning this round-the-clock platform as a replicable template for baseload-equivalent renewables. In Abu Dhabi, the gigascale system is intended to deliver reliable, affordable, clean power around the clock while strengthening energy security and supporting long-term economic diversification.
