There are lots of myths and misrepresentations being kicked around regarding the future of BC Hydro Hydro.

Is BC Hydro being split into seven separate companies? No. Is BC Hydro, or any of its core assets up for sale? No. Was the documentation that is being referred to "secret"? No.

So what are the facts?

First, BC Hydro has reorganized itself internally into more clearly defined "lines of business." This was simply an internal reorganization. It will bring clarity and accountability to the core financial and operating activities of each unit. This reorganization was actually started more than a year ago and has been in place since April 1.

Second, the "internal Hydro documents obtained by The Sun" have been circulated to, and available for, all of our employees since Oct. 11.

In fact, on that day, an e-mail was sent to all 6,000 employees encouraging them to read the material. Contrary to what some want your readers to think, there is no secret plan, there is no conspiracy.

Third, British Columbians currently enjoy among the very cheapest and renewable sources of electricity in the world. As it relates to BC Hydro, the very purpose of the government's energy policy is to ensure that this asset is properly regulated and preserved into the future. It will be prudent and progressive. It will also, once and for all, put an end to the fear mongering and misinformation that is being propagated.
