Just more than 1,000 customers are still without power in New Brunswick — two days after a powerful storm pulled down power lines across the Maritimes.

The bulk of the outages are in Bouctouche and in Miramichi and power is expected to be restored soon.

New Brunswick was hardest hit by heavy snow and gusting winds that at one point knocked out power to tens of thousands of residents and businesses across the region.

Meanwhile, forecasters say the weather system is on its way to Labrador.

Environment Canada says 25 centimetres of snow is expected to fall in the Happy Valley-Goose Bay area by December 30.

Winter storm warnings have been issued for the coast, where up to 40 cm of snow is expected.
