Hydro-Québec honoured for wind integration

Three Hydro-Québec research teams will receive an Annual Achievement Award from the Utility Wind Integration Group UWIG, honouring their significant contribution to the development of tools for the simulation, dynamic modeling and analysis of power systems with a large share of wind power.

This recognition by UWIG is remarkable and unusual because it honours three teams of researchers from the same company — a rare occurrence.

"This well-deserved honour is a tribute to the innovative talent of our research teams and the expertise that Hydro-Québec devotes to renewables energies, particularly hydroelectricity and wind power. The relevance and timeliness of their research will allow the company to benefit from unique, highly effective simulation tools that will help to optimize wind power output and integrate many projects into Hydro-Québec's extensive power grid," said Denis Faubert, General Manager of IREQ, Hydro-Québec's research institute.

Established in 1989, the Utility Wind Integration Group UWIG provides a forum for the critical analysis of wind technology for utility applications and serves as a source of credible information on the status of wind technology and its deployment. Based in the United States, UWIG has over 150 members from the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.

Power bill cut for 22m Thailand houses

BANGKOK - The Thailand cabinet has formally approved energy authorities' decision to either waive or cut electricity charges for 22 million households where people are working at home because of the coronavirus disease.

Energy Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong said after the cabinet meeting on Tuesday that the ministers acknowledged the step taken by from the Energy Regulatory Commission, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority.

The measure would be valid for three months, from March to May, and cover 22 million households. It would cost the state 23.68 billion baht in lost revenue, he said.
