A solar design and installation company says it has put in service the largest solar electric system of its kind in the state.

LightWave Solar Electric said it installed the 16.5-kilowatt photovoltaic system for Steve and Doris Denton at their home just west of Somerville in Fayette County.

The company said the Tennessee Valley Authority will contract with the Dentons to purchase their solar-generated electricity. TVA will pay them about twice the price that most Tennessee residents pay for their utility-generated power.

The Dentons will be first in line to use their own solar power, and any excess production beyond their usage will flow out onto the utility lines to be used by their neighbors. The TVA payment will show up as a credit on their utility bill.
