Energy professionals accept arbitration Hydro One strike over

At the request of the Government of Ontario, the union representing Hydro One professional employees has accepted a mediator's recommendations on how their strike should end.

Mediator William Kaplan has recommended that all bargaining issues be referred to third-party arbitration.

"We've considered the mediator's report and the government's recommendation," said Andrew Muller, president of the Society of Energy Professionals, "and we're pleased to accept them."

The Society of Energy Professionals represents more than 6,000 professional employees in the electricity industry in Ontario, including engineers, scientists, supervisors, and others. The Society is an affiliate of the International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers.

DUBLIN - The island of Ireland has gone a record length of time without using coal-fired electricity generation on its power system, Eirgrid has confirmed.

The all-island grid operated without coal between April 11th and May 7th – a total of 25 days, it confirmed. This is the longest period of time the grid has operated without coal since the all-island electricity market was introduced in 2007.
