Employee benefits package earns EPCOR best workplace status

Alberta Venture has awarded EPCOR Utilities Inc. (EPCOR) top spot in the "Best Workplace for Benefits" category in the magazine's "Alberta's Best Workplaces" edition.

"At EPCOR, we strive to reward employees not only through their paycheque, but also through a benefits program that sets the company apart as a leader in Alberta," said Rudy Klaus, Director of EPCOR's Total Rewards Program. "Offering a flexible plan that allows our employees to customize coverage levels and options to their current needs is an integral part of total compensation and an important factor in EPCOR's attraction and retention of top notch employees."

EPCOR was recognized for its range of benefits as well as allowing employees to tailor benefits packages to their needs. The City of Edmonton-owned power and water utility covers 100% of premiums for staff and their families and provides additional options which allow for individual customization. Employees enjoy access to a broad range of medical and paramedical services, as well as an option to take a health spending account which can be used towards extra health or dental expenses.

"EPCOR's approach to ongoing, proactive Benefits Support for employees includes online reference materials, annual information sessions and direct phone and email query response," said Deborah Samagalski, Manager of Pension and Benefits. "All combined, the goal is to assist our employees with making informed benefit choices in order to maximize the value of the benefits they have."

EPCOR also received an Honourable Mention in the Best Workplace for the Environmentally Conscious category, which recognized the company's efforts in water quality and renewable energy projects. And, EPCOR garnered another Honourable Mention in the Best Overall Workplace (Over 750 Employees) category.

The magazine's second annual rankings of "Alberta's Best Workplaces" is available online now as part of the March edition.

The Alberta Venture recognition complements EPCOR's nine-year standing as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers along with being recognized as one of Canada's 10 Most Earth-Friendly Employers.
