The California Public Utilities Commission approved a contract for DTE Energy to install a 45 MW biomass facility at an idled coal-fired power plant.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. PG&E would then purchase the power from DTE Energy.

DTE, the parent company of Detroit Edison, said it plans to purchase the plant, the Port of Stockton District Energy Facility from a unit of FPL Group Inc.

The plant would be connected to the PG&E power grid and existing cooling towers.
