Leaders from South Korea and the Netherlands are meeting to discuss cooperation on nuclear energy and the export of reactors to the Netherlands.

The South Korean Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is meeting with leaders in the Netherlands to try and sell its research reactor technology, Yonhap news agency reports.

The officials are proposing a nuclear energy pact that could include collaboration in the production of radioactive isotopes and efforts by South Korea to focus on eco-friendly growth using nuclear energy to meet growing demand.

South Korea's ministry suggested research reactors have the potential to become a $7.4 billion to $18.5 billion market operating in 40 countries.

There are already 240 operational units around the world, but more than half are more than 30 years old and will need to be replaced in the next 16 years.
